Brief Description:

After attending a Freedom Singers performance, various professionals living in Schenectady formed this chapter in 1963. For example, Dr. James Kouvel was a physicist, and George Weinhelmer was principal at a local school.  This chapter raised funds in various ways including an art auction and plant sale. They raised over 10,000 in 1963. They also raised local money for bail fund for SNCC volunteers. Through the money they raised, this chapter helped SNCC buy two cars for use in Mississippi.
