Brief Description:

The Iowa Friends of SNCC chapterĀ  raised funds for Freedom School workers through “adoption” campaigns. Donors would “adopt” a volunteer and send regular contributions to them. In return, the volunteer sometimes wrote letters and kept the donor informed about their work. They hosted events where academics debated the merits of non-violence. Five University of Iowa students went on a hunger strike to draw attention to SNCC’s efforts. Some faculty members supported their strike by publicizing it and raising funds for their chapter.
